Why cancelling my wedding in Mexico was the best thing I ever did.
Oh my gosh, my heart is so full of love! Going through my photos to create this post has brought up many emotions! I’m so excited to be sharing my wedding with everybody.
Brandon and I have been married for almost a month and although we lived together for almost 6 years, something has changed. When people ask me if I feel different I always say “yes” but it’s hard to describe. It’s like a new level of comfort I haven’t felt before. I guess it’s the feeling of locking my best friend down for life! I love him more and more each day and feel we are growing closer then ever. It really feels right that we are “husband” and “wife”.
I am going to share why we cancelled our dream wedding in Mexico, how we planned an entirely new wedding in Canada in just a matter of days and all the details on how our perfect wedding day unfolded. I will also add some links to the incredible venders that helped make it all happen.
A couple of days after hearing the news that my mothers cancer has returned, Brandon and I knew we needed to rearrange our wedding so my mom could be there to celebrate with us. So we cancelled our wedding in Mexico and my amazing sister stepped in as my new wedding planner.
As many of you know I work a with great people in wedding industry so I called my most trusted (local) vendors and got to work. I started with the venue, I felt that would help set the aesthetic for the day. My first choice was Stevenson’s Bed and Breakfast so I made a call to the owner Suzanne and without a hesitation she agreed to our date and made her entire property available to us.
Our favourite amenities had to be to beautiful fresh breakfast provided, the movie theatre (to keep the kiddos occupied during rehearsal and wedding dinner) and the really cool bar with our favourite beer on draft. Food was a no brainer we arranged our family friend Kelly to create a family style buffet with some of our favourite foods, followed by a huge spread of her famous cheesecakes and pies.
When it came to photography I wanted a bright dreamy feel so I reached out to my girl Emily Jean Photography. Emily went above and beyond to help my day unfold without a hiccup. She made time to scout the venue before hand and I think I even saw her moving a bar table up a few flights of stairs to help out..crazy lol.
I’m very fortunate to have bridal business in the family, my Auntie Heather jumped into action and sped along the alterations, luckily I had chosen a dress in good time as she recommended.
Between my sister and father they arranged our minister, cutlery and bagpipes. My bridesmaids and myself took on the flowers and I took on the cake. Just like that we had all of the ingredients for a wedding.
My mother in law planned a beautiful rehearsal at the venue and we all loved being able to stay onsite.
Admits 50 family members I walked down the isle to; The string Quartets tribute to Coheed and Cambria cover of In keeping secrets of silent earth.
We promised that day to stand by each other for the rest of our lives. Our day was full of so much love and joy it truly was perfect.
I just wanted to thank all of my vendors for jumping in so quickly to help.
It means so much.
